Per the USDA memo Nutrition Requirements for Fluid Milk and Substitutions in the CACFP, Questions and Answers, fluid milk substitutes may be served to food program participants as a dietary option—without being related to a milk allergy.
For example, if a parent has a child who follows a vegan diet, the parent can submit a written request to the care provider (homes and/or centers) to provide the participant with non-dairy milk. Refer to the memo linked above for more information.
When you flag a child as needing milk substitution, estimated and actual quantities required will include Substitute Milk in the milk quantity requirements for the Daily Menu and Menu Production Record. Substitute milk will also be included in the Milk Audit by default.
You must have the Modify Child Info permission to update milk substitutions for participants.
